Midget C3 Bills win Gold in Powell River

Midget C3 Bills win Gold in Powell River

Midget C3 came out the victors at the Powell River Midget C tournament final on December 1st.

They started the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Surrey C2 on Friday night.  They then had 6-1 and 8-0 wins on Saturday over Nanaimo and Comox Valley respectively.  Sunday morning’s game was a 5-0 win over Ridge Meadows, which earned them a rematch against Surrey for the Gold.

It was a classic, tight-checking final but both teams were able to generate some quality chances. ND opened the scoring in the first period. Surrey tied it up early in the second.  ND restored their lead mid-way through but Surrey scored on the power play with 3 minutes to go in the middle frame.  They struck again less than a minute later to take their first lead but ND pushed back and tied it up shortly before the second period came to a close.  The score remained knotted at 3 throughout the third period thanks to a strong ND PK that held up for more than a minute thirty at 5 on 3.  It looked like the game would be going to overtime before ND got the winning goal with under a minute to play.

A well-deserved win for the team and a very memorable weekend on and off the ice for players and parents alike.

Midget C1 wins Gold in Parksville

The Midget C1 Sharks won Gold in the Parksville tournament after defeating Peninsula 1-0 in it's sixth game. Regulation and 3 on 3 overtime settled nothing as the score remained 0-0 in a thrilling back and forth game marked by outstanding goaltending at both ends and great team defense. It took 4 shooters aside but North Delta finally prevailed and scored the winning goal in a sudden death shootout (whoever heard of such a thing?). Congratulations to the players, coaches, and parents!
